#50shadesofHappiness, Day 6: Knitted Socks

EN: When I learned how to knit, I never ever imagined I would love to knit socks. I mean it. I imagined I’d wear lots of pretty and elegant shawls, cute tops and lovely dresses. And I ignored sock knitting for as long as I could. But it soon got me wrapped in its magic spell and … long story short, now I’m a sock knitter.

I still have lots of shawls and scarves, tops and dresses, but what I have most in my wardrobe are … knitted socks, of course.

When I was a kid, about 7 or 8, my mother’s mom tried to teach me how to knit socks. She used long and sharp needles, DPNs. I was so afraid that if she were to drop one of the needles, it would land into hone of her feet. Oh well, I was once a scared kid with a vivid imagination.

On my list of happy projects are 2 pairs of socks I made for my mom and my sister. I used quality colorful yarn, merino, and sock wool.

#50shadesofhappiness is my way of balancing the amount of bad news that we get every day, across all channels. I want to share pictures of older projects on a daily basis with the goal of bringing joy and perhaps a smile. Why showcase older projects? Because I don’t want to add to the pressure of performing and being creative under these circumstances. Who has the time & energy to be 100% creative these days with everything that’s going on?! We’re dealing with this pandemic in different ways, some are super creative, some have days when they can barely get out of bed (myself included). And that’s ok.

I encourage you to take a walk down the memory lane and bring back older projects. Find the joy in those projects. Remember the good stories behind them.
