Knit Shawl – Glam Shells – Sal Tricotat

EN: One of the best things in knitting is that there’s always something new to learn. I wanted to learn how to knit shawls that look complicated, with wonderful lace models, but I thought it would be too complicated to understand the stitches and how to create those shapes. It’s one thing to knit circular a blouse or a sock and it’s a totally different thing to knit a shawl using k2tog and ssk and yarn overs to get flower shapes or complicated cable patterns.

But because I love puzzles, I took this new challenge which was just like a new puzzle for me, waiting to be discovered.

Lace knitting is something I wanted to learn ever since I was taught how to knit. And in order to learn the basics of lace knitting I used a very easy pattern. For me this is the best strategy in learning a new technique:I like to start with something easy and then work up the courage and the skills for something more complex. Glam Shells shawl is the pattern I used and it’s a very easy one. The lace part is mostly on the border.

For this shawl I used Knit Pro Royale 3,75 mm needles and Alize Diva yarn. I wanted a spring-summer shawl, perfect for chilly days and nights. The colors reminded me of the ocean, those waves in shades of blue and green you often see in travel pics.

The second challenge for me regarding this project was the border, which was written as a chart. I’ve never knit something before using just a chart so this was new, but nothing too complicated. Charts are logical.

Overall, I like this project and the shawl is wonderful. What do you think?

This scarf/shawl/wrap is available for purchase in my Etsy Shop!
