Că doar nu-i nimic complicat.

EN: The trickiest and hardest project for me this year has been crocheting 20 silk roses. [amazon_textlink asin=’B06XJPNH9H’ text=’Silk’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’us-1′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’ea5a7d5e-b295-11e8-93d9-7d2c3a4ed3cb’] is a wonderful yarn, truly magnificent, but it’s hard to work with it. There is nothing hard or tricky in crocheting a rose, but when you have to work with silk, it’s a completely different story.

What is like to crochet with silk?

First of all, before you start your silky project, remember a few things: you need smooth hands. I usually put on hand cream every night, because I like the feel of smooth hands. And even though my hands are not rough, I still managed to pull a few strings from it. Because this wonderful yarn is made of a dozen very fine and smooth threads, twisted together, like combed cotton, but less flexible.

Second: I would recommend in using a high end, very well polished [amazon_textlink asin=’B000XZYISM’ text=’crochet hook’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’us-1′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’2946470c-b296-11e8-ac93-0f5480d5f6ec’] for silk. No cheap hook, no bamboo hook. It’s better to use a perfectly made hook. Otherwise, yes, you can pull strings and it’s very tricky in putting them back together. Silk is not at all elastic as a fiber and it’s quite hard to pull it back and straighten it, like you’d normally do with cotton or wool.

Third: make sure you work even, keep the same tension. Otherwise your project will look uneven, full of with gaps and holes. And you do not want that. I worked these crochet roses with a 3mm hook and I found it was best for my project. You might want to try a few hooks – whichever suits your project, your tension etc.

And last: don’t use hand cream before working with silk. Because you’ll have a hard time in getting a grip on the fiber.

Now that I told you my experience, this does not mean you should not crochet with silk. In fact, I encourage you to do so. You’ll learn more about your own technique and the results are stunning.
