EN: I love knitted dresses, simple or with complex cable patterns. I love to wear a knitted dress because it’s easy to wear it and it compliments my body style. During summer time a knit dress will allow my body to cool down and dry off when temperatures are too high. If it’s one thing I hate about dresses in general is the feeling of suffocating when it’s hot outside and the dress does not allow for ventilation, keeping the humidity inside and now allowing the body to dry off. Which is why I really love wearing knitted dresses during summer time.

Now that I’ve mentioned my reasons to knit and wear dresses, can I brag about my latest project? I’ve knitted this dress to mark my 32nd birthday. The dress is called ASH and was created by Allison Hendrix. Of course when I first saw this pattern, I was fascinated with the low back shape, but then I changed my mind and made a high back dress. That’s because I want a knitted dress that I can wear anywhere and anytime. And a low back dress is not really office appropriate.

So I decided I will knit the high back dress and I’m not sorry for making this choice, I still think it was the best option for me.

For this knitted dress I used KnitPro Carbon needles – 3,25 mm and Scheepjes Whirl yarn. I believe the color is called Lavenderlicious. This yarn is perfect for a dress because it’s 5% Lurex, 57% Cotton, 38% Acrylic. So this yarn has a good drape – due to the cotton – and is also very flexible – due to the acrylic.

I’ve worn this dress a few times now and I can honestly say it’s perfect for spring, summer and warm autumn. I usually wear it with a full slip – because the lower part can be a bit transparent in daylight. This dress is perfect for me because it allows my body to cool down during hot summer days and it compliments my body.

What new technique I’ve learned through this project? I’ve learned the `contiguous set in sleeve` which is an amazing techniques and very useful for future projects. If you want to learn the technique, please visit Susie Myers’s tutorial, free on Ravelry.

crochet shawl lost in time

Crochet – Lost in Time shawl

I have a good crochet & knitting friend, Cati, who’s very talented and crafty (you may have seen some of her work on the blog). This past winter Cati has been crocheting a few shawls, but she fell in love with Lost in Time shawl, created by Johanna Lindahl. It’s a free pattern on Ravelry.

Last fall we both bought a few cakes of Scheepjes Whirl yarn, we both love how this yarn change colors so subtle and we were curious to see how this yarn feels like. This gradient yarn it’s not particularly cheap – about 21 pounds per 220 gr., but its worth every cent!

Because this particular yarn is not available in Romanian yarn stores, we bought it from WoolWarehouse.co.uk – I highly recommend this online store for yarn and needles as the prices are fair and there are so many brands to choose from. And from time to time, the sales campaigns are really good.

Anyway, as I said, my friend, Cati fell in love with the Lost in Time shawl, so as soon as we got the yarn, she made a shawl. And then another one. And another one. I think she made about 4 or 5 shawls using this pattern and various brands of yarn.

And because I’m a curious person, I’ve also started a Lost in Time shawl, using various skeins of yarn I have in my stash, hoping to downsize it. While mine is still a work in progress, Cati’s work is finished and looks amazing!

Here’s her Lost in Time shawl using Scheepjes Whirl yarn. It’s the softest shawl every, perhaps because it’s a blend of 60% cotton / 40% acrylic.

Have you ever made a Lost in Time Shawl? Or have you used Scheepjes Whirl yarn? Would love to read about your experiences with this yarn and/or this crochet pattern. Leave us a comment in the section below 🙂
