EN: So pretty, but so much work to make a woven crochet blanket. Nevertheless, I enjoy making these woven blankets. I use mostly cotton for crochet baby blankets, because I really like the texture and cotton is safer for small babies than other yarns. Of course, I have a feeling some might disagree, but this is how I crochet baby blankets. I like acrylic yarn for hats, scarves, mittens and slippers, but not for baby blankets.

Why do I like to crochet baby blankets? Because the work itself is quite relaxing, although it takes a huge amount of time and yarn. And it is so much fun, especially when I get to make my own model and improvise. I really like to follow my crochet gut, if there is such a thing :))

What did I use to crochet a woven blanket?

  1. yarn: Alize Cotton Gold, a 60% cotton, 40% acrylic yarn
  2. hook: 4 mm
  3. scissors
  4. sewing needle – I had to weave in so many ends.

The hardest part in working a woven crochet blanket? Choosing the colors! I mean, I rarely finish a project with just the colors I started with. Because I always get the feeling that „something is missing” and I end up testing new stuff, adding colors, different strands of yarn etc. etc. It’s not fun for me if I don’t add something personal in that project. And perhaps that is why my most successful projects were the ones where people told me to follow my instinct and make something pretty (true story!).

This is my latest crochet baby blanket, it’s a woven baby blanket. I wanted to use a pattern very popular, only to discover it was no longer available on Ravelry. So I started to improvise. I mean, how hard can it be, right? Ahm, wrong!

To cut the story short: I made my own version of weaving blanket. And I love it! Instead of making the border with fringes – this is a blanket for a newborn – I opted for a flexible border made of HDC in 3rd loop.

Well, enough talk, what do you think?
