Making Wool Memories – Knitted blouse

Whenever I’m travelling abroad, I try to make a few wool memories as well as photographic memories. It’s a way of taking home with me a very small piece of the experience. Last year, for example, I bought yarn from Italy, Austria and Ireland.

With the wool I had bought in Dublin, from the Aran Sweater Market, I made myself a blouse. Winters can be cold here in Romania, so a knitted blouse is a must have.

The wool is from Kerry Woollen Mills and it’s 100% Pure New Wool. The feel is wonderful, a rich thread of yarn, evenly spinned.

Because I had bought only a skein (200gr), I knew I wouldn’t have enough to knit a full blouse. So I used a few skeins of grey Mohair I had in my stash and a skein of acrylic Red Heart Soft Baby Steps, leftover from a project. I combined the mohair with the wool and used the acrylic to make the sleeves.

The result is wonderful, the blouse feels soft and fluffy to touch and fits me perfectly. I love yarn but I’m not a snob yarn. I love wool, cotton and mohair. I like certain acrylic yarns as well.

This is one of my wool memories made in 2018. I am committed to not buying huge amounts of yarn and improvising as much as I can so I can shrink my stash to a few skeins/balls. And last year I kept my promise. Hope to continue the tradition in 2019 as well.

The project is on Ravelry
